As mentioned in previous posts, I spent the month of January in L.A. During my time there, I came across a lot of interesting locals. This woman was dancing her heart out along the boardwalk in Venice Beach. I couldn’t help but first notice her walkman attached to her waist (along side her fanny pack) and her vibrant pink attire, while she looked like the happiest woman alive. It was something I could relate too and a moment I will never forget. See it also on Pushforward this week.

I have just returned from spending the month in Los Angeles and I miss it dearly. I explored many places, but the one that stuck with me most was my experience at the Salton Sea. Above is a collage of images that I shot for Stella, a monthly magazine that comes with the London Telegraph. I photographed the interiors, and owners, of the top 6 vintage shops in Toronto, to showcase their detailed boutique-like atmosphere. Polish my Lens is the name of my photo-a-day project for 2011, which consists of me photographing one thing each day and posting it. With the year coming to an end, so will my blog.

The first photo above, was taken on the 6th day of January, right near the beginning of my project, in a very high traffic area of Toronto. I came across this lifeless bunny rabbit on some frosted grass and thought it was so peaceful lying there with the frosted ice drops on its fur. When I discovered this, I really felt I had found something worth sharing… which became the intention of my blog. However, I did struggle to find something like that every day. The thing I’ve grown to like best about this project, is this very moment, where I can look back on the entire year of experiences I’ve had. It seems to have become my journal of 2011. I’m going to miss it and intend to carry on something similar for 2012.

The second photo was taken on Christmas day of this year. It is relatable to the photo of the rabbit, consisting of a beautiful bundle of flowers topped with ice.

While watching the transit customers walk by at the TTC HQ, we spoke about his recent years living in the UK, his brightly coloured sock collection and having him do cart-wheels for the photo, to show off his socks.
